A commission for persoconchii. She wanted a fairy tale Little Mermaid (not Disney's) with lilies. To me the Little Mermaid was kind of a slip of a thing... (she turns into foam afterall) and I wanted to get that feeling in the drawing and the blue behind her.

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. Not that Disney's little mermaid wasn't fun but my mermaid always dove off the ship, turned into foam and had her soul ascend into heaven.
(getting back to the picture) I really love the softeness and almost old fashioned photo quality of the faded image. And you can really feel her anguish even with most of her face turned away.
